Kenwood

The wealthy neighborhood of Kenwood has a suburban feel, many distinguished homes, and large houses on sprawling lots. While not all the real estate property in Kenwood is expensive, it isn’t uncommon to see homes sell for over $1 million. The impressive older homes are from a variety of styles, and belong to some of Chicago’s most well-to-do residents. New homes priced around $300,000 and up are attracting more middle-class people into the community. The new constructions, many by well known architects, have not diminished this area’s charm and atmosphere.

Hyde Park is just south of Kenwood, between Blackstone and 51st Street. There are some fantastic shopping and dining opportunites in this community, and while it is somewhat removed from the city, it still makes for a fun day trip.

The University of Chicago is nearby, and some of the faculty have homes in Kenwood and Hyde Park. Traveling from Kenwood toward the university, one sees the larger estates give way to small, student-friendly housing. The Chicago Park District has some facilities in the area, and there are many schools.
