North Lawndale

Lawndale is located between Cicero Avenue and Western Avenue on Chicago’s West Side. Though the district has undergone some hard times, and the number of jobs in the area diminished, many loyal residents chose to remain in the neighborhood. Today, businesses are once again moving into the area and there are housing and educational incentive programs helping the area. There has been a renovation boom in the last few years, but property prices are still reasonable. There are a number of housing options to be had for under $100,000 and this makes the area very alluring to first-time home buyers. This neighborhood of around 42,000 is rapidly growing and new and rehabilitated properties are appearing on the market every day. Many younger people are looking to Lawndale for nice homes at a good prices.

Lawndale has a strong spiritual atmosphere due to its many religious facilities and resources. Among these is the nonprofit Lawndale Christian Development Corporation which renovates homes in the area.

The Lawndale Chicago Farmers Market, which runs from June to October, is a great place to find locally-grown food and homemade goods. The area supports two hospitals and a number of schools, public and private. Both of the CTA Blue Line branches run through Lawndale, CTA busses run in the area, and there is convenient access to the Eisenhower and Stevenson Expressways.
