North Park

Located in the far northwest of Chicago, adjoining to Jefferson Park and North Park, the neighborhood of North Park, begins to confuse city and suburban living. The Cook County Forest Preserve is close at hand, and near that is the expansive Edgebrook Golf Course. There are so many green and open areas in North Park that people new to the area occasionally think that they’ve left the city and are driving across the countryside. Sauganash and Wildwood are conveniently close, although if you’re headed for the city, you’ll be pleased with the easy access to the Edens Expressway.

North Park, according to the 2000 Census, has one of the highest median incomes in Chicago, which makes sense, as real estate properties in the neighborhood start around $300,000 and surpass the $5 million mark. Of these homes, one will find marvelously kept up English Tudors, Colonials, and Georgians along with newer constructions. The neighborhood has both large estates and more affordable starter homes for sale. The community is smart and inviting, and the residents know their neighbors.

One of the area parks, Jefferson Park, named for President Thomas Jefferson, is home to the volunteer Citywide Orchestra. It contains ball fields, tennis courts, a playground, trails, open areas, and a field house; it offers music lessons as well. Portage Park, completed in 1917, offers a number of youth-oriented programs, including gymnastics, music lessons, sports programs, sign language, woodcraft, and after school programs. It contains ball fields, basketball and tennis courts, swimming, paths, a few field houses, an in-line skating slab, and open areas.
