Near South Side

Chicago’s Near South Side, or South Loop, extends from 800 South to 2600 South, and east to the 500 block. This area is a study in economic contrasts, home to both Chicago’s wealthiest inhabitants and the city’s least fortunate. Beautiful and dire at the same time, it is a living contradiction of hard living and affluence, abandonment and investment.

The South Loop Planning Commission is tasked to reduce the discrepancies and reduce the striking disparity between the quickly developing parts and the decayed and vacant buildings. The end result will be a destination neighborhood filled with tremendous homes and wonderful dining, shopping, and entertainment. The neighborhood’s location is a huge positive, and the Near South Side is destined to find itself a place of wealth and opulence. The area’s historic buildings and Printer’s Row district are easy to fall in love with, and conveniences such as major retail outlets and new Dominick’s and Jewel-Osco supermarkets are moving into the area.

The area’s charm and wealth are reflected in the real estate property prices. Loft apartments and condos go in the neighborhood of $408,000, detached single family homes for around $406,000, two to four unit homes at $403,000, and five or more units at $1 million.

There is an exceptional amount of public transportation in the area, with the Metra, Blue, Red, Green and Orange “L” lines, and CTA busses. There is also access to I-90/94 and I-41.
