West Town

Just west of the Loop proper, the neighborhood of West Town (sometimes known as West Loop) is on the verge of a immense property redevelopment boom. Investors, developers, and home buyers are all scrambling to purchase real estate in the neighborhood of West Town before prices in the area reach their full potential. If you are interested in buying property in West Town, you should hurry, as prices are rising and available land is becoming scarce.

Formerly an industrial district of warehouses and factories, these buildings are being remodeled into lofts and spacious condominiums. West Town developers are working with existing structures and integrating new ideas with sturdy old foundations, a successful strategy proven in other Chicago neighborhoods. The area is becoming increasingly attractive, as people decide to pass on cheaper places a bit farther north in favor of trendy new digs just blocks from the Loop. The population is increasing along with the housing prices, but West Town isn’t crowded yet, with only 47,000 people in the area.

Shopping in the neighborhood is a rarity, but with the shops of downtown Chicago just blocks away, this isn’t really an issue. There are a good number of restaurants and nightclubs in the area, if you feel like staying close to home some nights.

The Chicago Academy of the Arts is in West Town, as well as a number of public and private schools. The neighborhood is also home to Union Station. There is easy access to the Dan Ryan and Eisenhower Expressways.
