South Lawndale

Lawndale is situated between Cicero Avenue and Western Avenue on Chicago’s West Side. Though the community has seen some difficult times, and the number of jobs in the area decreased, many loyal residents chose to remain in the neighborhood. Today, businesses are once again moving into the region and there are housing and educational incentive programs helping the region. There has been a renovation boom in the last few years, but property prices are still sensible. There are a number of housing options available for under $100,000 and this makes the area very tantalizing to first-time home buyers. This district of around 42,000 is quickly growing and new and restored properties are appearing on the market every day. Many younger people are looking to Lawndale for nice homes at a good prices.

Lawndale has a strong spiritual ambiance due to its numerous religious facilities and resources. Among these is the nonprofit Lawndale Christian Development Corporation which refurbishes homes in the area.

The Lawndale Chicago Farmers Market, which runs from June to October, is a great place to find locally-grown food and homemade goods. The area supports two hospitals and a number of schools, public and private. Both of the CTA Blue Line branches run through Lawndale, CTA busses run in the area, and there is convenient access to the Eisenhower and Stevenson Expressways.
