Mount Greenwood is to the west of Beverly and Morgan Park, and bordered by 99th and 103rd, 115th, Sacramento Avenue, Crawford Avenue and Saint Casimir Cemetery. In 2001, the median house price here was $135,000.
Mount Greenwood got its name from the nearby Mount Greenwood cemetery. The community developed over a number of decades and the housing options reflect the times in which they were built. The city at one time had many bars to entertain the fans of the regional dog track. over the years, the taverns started vanishing and additional houses were built and the region developed into a steady middle-class region. One can find houses that selection in the $100,000’s and $200,000’s. home prices are rising, as older homes and housing properties are being replaced by new homes.
Located in Chicago’s southwest side, the Beverly communities and Morgan Park at a time acted as retreats for Chicago’s political elite. European Protestants were the first to settle in these neighborhoods, but they now are home to a variety of Irish Catholics and African Americans. In 2001, the median cost for a single-family home in Beverly was $269,000; in Morgan Park the median price was $92,000.
The Beverly Art Center offers a broad range of classes, presentations, and performances. It has played a significant role in the community for over 30 years. There is also a farmer’s market in Beverly.
Morgan Park encompasses a nice assortment of home styles. A number of homes price between $120,000 and $450,000. Smart shoppers can find condos starting out at $70,000. Quite a few of the houses are older, but there is a good deal of renovation going on around the area. There is a thriving commercial district in the region as well.
