Norwood Park

Norwood Park

Norwood Park is a mostly Irish and Italian neighborhood. A large population of Chicago police officers and fire fighters live in this region. The location lies west of Jefferson Park, south of Edison Park and east of O’Hare. The area is very green and some property lots stretch for about 300 feet. Some of the homes are begining to age, but most of these remain in good condition. Home prices start around $80,000 and can run to $500,000 with a median price of $225,000.

This neighborhood is staunchly Republican, making this area politically different than the remainder of the city. But regardless of its political affiliation, this district is cozy and sheltering and is a very good neighborhood for families. In the summer months, there are often block parties, and the residents are welcoming of new arrivals. Norwood Park has some of Chicago’s top public schools and there are many locally owned businesses here, providing for good shopping opportunities.

The area’s real park, Norwood Park, is located at 5801 North Natoma Avenue. Its fourteen acres house outdoor swimming, a fitness center, a track, a few athletic fields, tennis courts and a field house. The park acts as a site for a number of community events, and also offers ballet classes, tap dancing lessons, acting classes, a number of athletic programs, and music lessons.

Old Norwood is situated in the western half of the community, and is set off by Devon Avenue, Bryn Mawr Avenue, Canfield Avenue and Harlem. Norwood Park is delineated by the Village of Niles, Cook County Forest Preserve, Austin Avenue and Harlem Avenue.
