West Lawn, a pleasantly peaceful and close community of 30,000 near Midway International Airport, feels comfortably suburban. Residents are friendly and helpful, and the area is well established with long-term residents and mostly single-family homes. West Lawn’s demographic is primarily Latino, with the population rising greatly in the last few years, a sixth of the population arriving in the last decade.
Among the good shopping opportunities in the area is the Ford City Mall, with over 150 stores, a large cinema and a working carousel. The actual West Lawn Park provides a number of recreation pastimes. Daley College is also in the area.
West Lawn is the region between 59th Street to the north and the Belt Railway Company of Chicago tracks to the south, and Cicero Avenue to the Grand Trunk Western tracks. Homes sell for an average of $100,000, up to around $170,000.
The community is serviced by CTA busses, and the Stevenson Expressway is nearby.
